Uncertain economic situation weighs on job satisfaction
Almost a third of those surveyed stated that the current economic situation is having a negative impact on their job satisfaction. For around 28%, the economic situation is even having a direct effect on their income.
These developments are clearly affecting people's willingness to change jobs:
- 48% are specifically planning to change jobs in 2025,
- with a further 28% considering this step. Only a quarter of the participants feel secure and in good hands in the long term in their current job.
About the survey
A total of 1,054 employees in the financial sector took part in the study – 93% of them from Austria and 7% from Germany. The 36-45 age group was the most strongly represented, accounting for 32% of the sample, followed by the 46-55 age group (31%) and the 26-35 age group (25%). With women making up 56% of the sample, the gender ratio was slightly female-dominated.
This sample represents an experienced target group that is in the prime of their career and is looking for both stability and development.
Why skilled workers want to quit – the most common reasons
In addition to economic uncertainty, internal company factors also play a central role in the decision to change jobs. The three most frequently cited reasons:
- Lack of development opportunities – When prospects are lacking, the search for alternatives becomes a logical consequence.
- Dissatisfaction with managers – Appreciation and leadership quality are key factors in employee retention.
- Lack of team cohesion – A poor team atmosphere can devalue even attractive working conditions.
The results make it clear: if you want to retain employees in the long term, you have to offer more than just a good salary. Appreciative leadership, good cooperation and transparent development paths are essential.
What applicants really want
A look at the factors that make new employers particularly attractive shows a clear picture – they are the same aspects that lead to termination:
- Meaningful and varied tasks
- Good cooperation in a team
- A harmonious relationship with the manager
Employers who want to attract and retain skilled workers in the long term should address these points in a targeted manner.
